FAQ

What is Snap Kitchen all about?

Snap Kitchen is the fast, convenient way to pick up a fresh, healthy, delicious meal or snack any time of day. We’re focused on helping you energize a healthy lifestyle with chef-prepared menus made from the freshest ingredients, whether you’re aiming for a more ideal weight or a better finish time in an upcoming race.

How does Snap Kitchen work?

Our chefs prepare and package individual meals throughout the day, each reasonably priced from $3 – $12, and each complete with its own nutritional information. We use fresh-picked, local (when available) ingredients to make an extensive variety of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack items. They’re ready to eat or ready to heat up – in a snap! Stop into one of our convenient locations, or order for pickup or delivery.

Are Snap Kitchen meals ready to eat?

Our meals are prepared with the freshest ingredients daily and are refrigerated. Some items, such as salads, are ready to eat and others simply need to be heated briefly in a microwave or oven. We use only microwave-safe containers that are reusable or recyclable.

How do I find out the nutritional information of Snap Kitchen meals?

All of our meals and snacks carry individual nutritional labels, as do the items on our web site. Additionally, each location has a knowledgeable Registered Dietitian or Nutritionist on staff who can share detailed nutritional information about Snap Kitchen meals.

How long do Snap Kitchen meals last at home?

Our meals and snacks will last up to 5 days in your refrigerator, with seafood items having a somewhat shorter recommended “shelf life.” All of our meals carry labels with expiration dates. Snap Kitchen meals are fresh made, so eating them soon after purchase date is best.

Which days is Snap Kitchen cooking?

We prepare food every day of the week!

Can Snap Kitchen meals be frozen?

Sure they can. But Snap Kitchen uses only fresh ingredients and never freezes anything, so to retain peak flavor and nutritional value, we recommend not freezing items you take home either. If you need to freeze some items, we recommend placing them back in the refrigerator one day prior to eating to allow for defrosting.

Do you offer curbside pickup?

Yes! We are happy to deliver your order to your car at any of our locations if you’re in a hurry, have kids in tow, or have a hard time finding a parking spot. It’s our version of drive-thru! Pre-order by email or phone, let us know you want curbside service, and your order will be ready when you pull up. You can also call us from the car with an order when you arrive at any location, and we’ll pull it together and run it out to your car in a snap!

What about delivery?

We deliver to home or office (up to 15 miles away), but require a 24-hour lead time and a $25 minimum order. Because all food is prepared fresh every day, we plan in advance which items we will be preparing each day. Advance ordering for delivery gives us the ability to prepare any item you choose fresh that day! The chart below details our delivery options:

Amount Distance Charge
$25 – $100 <5 miles from our flagship stores (Triangle-Austin, Kirby/Richmond-Houston) $20
$100 – $300 <5 miles from our flagship stores (Triangle-Austin, Kirby/Richmond-Houston) $15
Over $300 <5 miles from our flagship stores (Triangle-Austin, Kirby/Richmond-Houston) No Charge

Charges for deliveries over 15 miles from one of our flagships will be calculated on a per order basis.

Remember, there is never a charge to pick up your pre-ordered food at any of our locations.

How do I know how many calories or what size meals I should purchase?

Nutritional demands vary by person, based on your sex, height/weight, activity level, medical condition, etc. We recommend setting up a consultation with our Registered Dietitian if you have any questions, allergies, or medical issues so that we can design a menu for you. For consultations with our Registered Dietitian, the cost is $75 per hour, and can be booked in 30-minute increments. We recommend a 60-minute initial consultation. For any prepaid orders of $500 or more, the consultation fee is waived. For a prepaid order of $1,000, we will include three additional 30-minute consultations. On average, our food is based on a 1,500-calorie lifestyle for women and a 2,000-calorie lifestyle for men. The calorie counts are based on three meals and two snacks per day.

Will I really have more energy and feel better if I eat at Snap Kitchen on a regular basis?

Definitely! Our meals are designed to decrease unhealthy body fat and fuel your metabolism with lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and healthier fats.

How many calories do your meals contain?

We prepare two sizes of meals which are available anytime in our retail stores. The small meals range from 300 to 400 calories, large meals from 500 to 600 calories, and snacks typically range from 150 to 200 calories. We also offer our “Training Table” meals (higher calorie range with clean carbohydrates) and meal components (such as roasted chicken, ground turkey, brown rice, quinoa, steamed vegetables) by advance ordering through our website, at our stores, or over the phone.

Is it important that I eat 5-6 times per day?

YES!! The best way to keep your body fueled, energy level high, and weight in check is to keep your food intake consistent. Ideally you would eat breakfast within an hour of waking up, and then space your meals/snacks out every 2 ½-3 ½ hours throughout the day. If you exercise in the evening, try to eat right after exercising and make that your last meal of the day. If you don’t work out in the evening, try not eating within three hours before bedtime.

What should I drink to maximize my health?

Water is the absolute best thing for your body. We encourage you to drink at least two liters of water each day (more if you’re exercising). Keeping your body hydrated is important for your physical and mental health. Water also helps to flush the toxins out of your body, and keep your body clean. We’re also not opposed to consuming other beverages; there are great natural teas (kombucha, mate, etc.) and there is plenty of research that says that coffee (in moderation) is healthy, as is a glass of red wine with dinner.

Where is Snap Kitchen based?

We are an Austin-based concept with a Houston location. We believe in supporting our local communities as much as possible.

Are you open to suggestions regarding food/menu, nutrition, service, or anything else?

PLEASE give us feedback. We are FANATICAL about customer service, cleanliness, and integrity of product and concept. We have a feedback page on our website which goes directly to our founders. Additionally, we encourage our staff to solicit feedback from our customers. If you have feedback that you want to discuss directly with one of the owners, please let a staff member know and we will take the call immediately.

Do you use only organic ingredients?

We use organic ingredients as often as possible, but organic is just one of many characteristics we use to evaluate the food we buy. Ultimately, we attempt to obtain the highest quality food from as close to us as possible by supporting local vendors. Additionally, we recognize that some purveyors that aren’t certified organic use responsible, sustainable methods in their production practices. Therefore, as our customer, you can take comfort in knowing that what we bring into our kitchen are ingredients that we feel strongly about and that we have researched extensively.

OK, so if Snap Kitchen isn’t a certified organic concept, are the ingredients still natural?

Absolutely! Our food is prepared using ingredients that are sourced as close to us as possible. Additionally, all of our food is free of hormones, steroids, and antibiotics.

Is Snap Kitchen an environmentally conscious concept?

ABSOLUTELY! Snap Kitchen is proud to be one of only a few restaurants in Austin and Houston to have earned a 2-Star Green Restaurant Certification by the Green Restaurant Association (GRA). We’ve met the GRA’s strict standards on water efficiency, waste reduction and recycling, sustainable décor and building materials, energy efficiency, chemical and pollution reduction, and the use of sustainable foods. All of our containers are recyclable, and the majority of them are reusable. Don’t ever buy another piece of Tupperware!
